FoWI depends on our talented volunteers to help run the many aspects of a non-profit organization. 
New positions have been created and we welcome motivated volunteers and interns to join our team.

Who We Are: FoWI is a non-profit organization created to foster diversity by hosting events to empower our community.  We share space with Wild Iris Books, Florida’s ONLY feminist and metaphysical bookstore.  We live by the law of inclusion and work hard to support all the voices that create our colorful community.

Types of Events We Host:  FoWI is a strong supporter of the creative arts and hosts an Open Mic night twice a month to offer the stage to poets, musicians, singers, and more.  We support local artists by holding a monthly Artwalk exhibit – highlighting an up-and-coming artist in our community.  FoWI hosts lectures, workshops, panel presentations, plays and monologues, author signings and women-only events – to name just a few! 

Friends of Wild Iris and Wild Iris Books are at a critical place and we need passionate motivated people now more than ever if this space is to continue!  Just 5-10 hours a month or more can help FoWI and Wild Iris get through these tough times and increase the diversity of events and educational programs we can sponsor and host.  Support feminist programming in our community ~ contact info@friendsofwildiris.org to begin your volunteer experience today! 

Hospitality Team

FoWI would like to create a Hospitality Team that will contribute to the success of events and educational programming.  Job duties would include set-up and clean-up, light bartending, and hosting events.  Team members will need to complete a short training to achieve Food Service Certification.

Social Networking Team

Volunteers are needed for creation, testing and design of a FoWI social-networking site that supports multi-users.  This social community will provide logins to individuals, educational institutions, local businesses, and social service resources.  Users will then have the ability to post blogs and events to display to all members of the FoWI community.  Volunteers will also help maintain social internet sites.

FoWI Historian

FoWI needs people to create and edit video footage of events.  Historians will also help take photographs at events.  Video and photo will be used to enhance the website, create a video archive, and compliment donor materials and annual reports. 

Community Outreach Team

Help develop relationships with like-minded organizations to create interest for the social networking community and lay foundations for collaborative opportunities and programming.  Help recruit other volunteers to contribute to FoWI’s mission.  Begin an “Agency of the Month” program to highlight a feminist organization and assist them in fundraising through receptions and events.

Street Tabling Team

FoWI needs volunteers to staff and promote the store at a variety of tabling events.  Possible venues include art fairs, farmers markets, conferences, etc.  Dedicated volunteers are needed to provide a weekly story time for children at the Downtown Farmer’s Market.

Fundraising Team

FoWI needs motivated individuals to help cultivate and create donor interest.  Financial support is crucial and we need help to keep the momentum going.  Individual and small business support will be vital to the agency’s success.   Volunteers will help solicit funds and in-kind donations to help ensure ongoing financial stability of the organization.

Grant Research and Development Team

Individuals are needed to research grant opportunities to identify potential funding streams.  Volunteers will also assist in data collection and program development associated with seeking external funds.

Public Relations Team

Help FoWI create a grassroots system of promoting that includes word of mouth, printed material, and earned media.  Volunteers will assist in seeking out public relation opportunities and help with the distribution of marketing and promotional materials.
